ARTIFICIAL ANGEL

The collection, created between September 2023 and May 2024, explores the boundaries between traditional art and the increasing presence of AI-generated imagery. Fashion designer and artist Erwin Michalac presents a perspective that emphasises a clear distinction between algorithmic output and human-centric art.

Erwin highlights the difference between software-driven processes—which utilize vast databases of existing works—and the intentional, reflective creation process characteristic of "flesh and blood" artists. While acknowledging the potential utility of artificial intelligence in other fields, he advocates for maintaining a separate space for traditional art forms such as painting, sculpture, and handicraft. He believes that human creativity remains self-sufficient and does not require AI to flourish in the artistic domain.

As a result, this collection was developed entirely without the use of AI tools. These handmade, avant-garde dresses and costumes serve as a creative manifestation of his commitment to traditional craftsmanship and human-led artistic expression.
